Helping sellers get tips to their teams faster

We introduced Daily Tip Payouts to give sellers an easier, cash-free way to distribute tips — instantly to their team’s Cash App accounts.

This feature connects Square’s seller ecosystem with Cash App’s employee network, helping staff access their earnings the same day they work.

The opportunity

Many sellers still pay out tips in cash at the end of each shift, a manual process that’s time-consuming, error-prone, and operationally risky.
For employees, it meant delayed access to earnings and more friction managing finances. For sellers, it meant counting cash nightly, keeping paper records, and frequent bank runs to replenish funds.

Sellers wanted a way to automate tip payouts digitally without extra fees or administrative overhead.

A brand new experience

We built Daily Tip Payouts to Cash App — a new flow in Square Dashboard that lets sellers review, manage, and send digital tip payouts at the end of each shift. Tips appear instantly in each employee’s Cash App balance, ready to spend, save, or transfer.

To make onboarding effortless, we launched an integrated linking flow for employees to connect their Cash App accounts directly in the Team App, and enabled Square Balance support to scale beyond sellers with Square Checking.

Easier money handling for sellers, happier employees

  • Send tips directly from Dashboard

    Sellers can review and send daily tip payouts in just a few clicks from Square Dashboard — no envelopes, spreadsheets, or nightly cash counting.

  • Easy setup and faster access for employees

    Employees can quickly link their existing Cash App account or join through a simple invite flow. After each shift, tips are sent to their Cash App balance — improving cash flow and giving them quicker access to their earnings.

  • Help sellers stay organized with payout records

    Sellers can view and export historical tip payout data by date or location, making it easy to reconcile payments and manage records across their team.

The impact

$50K in paid tips across 50 alpha and beta sellers.

Currently in closed beta, Daily Tip Payouts is already helping sellers simplify end-of-day operations and give employees faster access to their earnings. Early feedback has been highly positive, with sellers highlighting smoother close-outs and less manual cash handling.

The team is now preparing for general availability — expanding access to more seller types and introducing automated and scheduled payouts to make daily tip payments even easier.
